Bengals win 3 out of 5 in Tournament

The Bengal softball team picked up three wins the Galveston Tournament held over the weekend. LSUE defeated Lamar College, San Jacinto and Texarkana to improve to 3-6 on the young season.

The win over Lamar was the teams’ first victory of the season, after LSUE started with a winless opening series with Galveston and Chipola. LSUE beat Lamar 9-5.

The Bengals took the early lead, but Lamar tied the game up at 4-4 in the fourth inning. The LSUE girls took control in the fifth inning, scoring four runs. Leigh Jukes had a single in the inning and scored, while Chasity Fontenot, Lindsey Babin, and Amanda Savoie each had a double and a run scored.

Jukes finished 3-for-4 and had two RBs and a double. Salea Willoughby earned the win on the pitcher’s mound of the Bengals.

In game two of the Galveston Tournament, LSUE beat Texarkana 3-2. The Bengals scored early when Emmalea Dugas and Babin scored off a Jukes single and a Rhea Person sacrifice.

Texarkana chipped away at the LSUE’s small lead, and tied the contest at 2-2 in the fifth inning.

In the sixth inning, Bridget Walker hit a double and Fontenot’s sacrifice to right field drove in Walker gave LSUE the win.

Hannah Latiolais picked up the win for the Bengals.

In LSUE’s third win of the tournament, Kami Hebert almost singlehandedly beat San Jacinto. She finished two-for-three, with two runs scored, a double, a homerun, and an RBI.

Hebert hit a homerun in the second inning to give LSUE a 1-0 lead over the Lady Gators. She had her double in the fourth inning and scored on Meredith Himel’s single to right field.

Elizabeth Kaiser is credited with the win on the pitcher’s mound. She pitched seven innings and gave up only three hits in the contest.

The Bengals fell to Alvin College 7-4 and, once again, to Galveston 8-0.
