Softball Coach Steps Down, Search Begins for New Coach
LSUE Public Relations
EUNICE – LSUE softball head coach Brian Dewitt resigned after three seasons with the Bengal softball squad yesterday.

“Being a true team player and also being unable to give 100 percent to the program each day, I felt that it was best for a change,” said Dewitt.

LSUE Athletic Director Jeff Willis announced DeWitt’s resignation today and reassured the public that a search would begin for a new head coach. He said that the process, following LSU protocol, will take between six and eight weeks.

Willis also explained that all scholarships and letters of intent issued by DeWitt for the upcoming 2008-2009 academic year will be honored by the university.

“I will miss the students that will be on next year’s team,” said Dewitt. “They are great people who will work hard both in the classroom and on the field.”

Dewitt was the first coach of the young program and guided the girls to three straight NJCAA regional tournament appearances.

“I want to thank LSUE for allowing me the special opportunity to start the program,” said DeWitt.   “Now is the time for the next coach to take this program to the next level of success.”
