Bengals top Hinds in Region 23 Tournament
Friday May 15th, Eunice, LA – Day two the Region 23 baseball tournament at Bengal Stadium had three games played. In game one, Holmes Community College defeated Itawamba in an elimination game by a score of 10-0.
LSUE and Hinds Community College played in game two. LSUE (47-10) won that game by a score of 17-8. Joey Bourgeios (11-2) picked up the win pitching seven plus innings, allowing nine hits and seven runs with one walk and seven strikeouts.
For the second straight game, eight of the nine hitters in the starting line-up for LSUE recorded at least one hit. The Bengals were led by Trey Watkins of Destrehan and Jordan Bourque of Teurlings Catholic who each went 4-for-6. Watkins scored four runs and had three RBI’s. Borque had two doubles, scored three runs, and drove in four. Zach Kirksey of West Monroe added four RBI’s going 3-for-6 with a homerun.
The loss by Hinds forced them to play the third game of the day; an elimination game, versus Holmes. In that game, Holmes defeated Hinds by a score of 11-6. Therefore, Holmes will play LSUE in tomorrow’s championship game. That game is set to begin at 2 pm at Bengal Stadium.
