Lady Bengals team with ULL for cause
The LSU Eunice Softball team joined with UL-Lafayette on Wednesday night in supporting and raising awareness for breast cancer during their fall scrimmage.
While fall game scores cannot be reported per NJCAA rules and regulations, Wednesday’s game was about far more than the score. Both teams traded in their traditional colors and uniforms and wore special pink jerseys for the game, while fans were encouraged to wear pink as well. The umpiring crew also donned pink shirts for the game.
“It’s always a big deal when you can come on a great field and great program like Louisiana-Lafayette, a predominately great softball program that’s been ranked in the top-10 many years,” LSU Eunice head coach
Andy Lee said.
“It’s even better when we come together for a great cause like Breast Cancer Awareness, raising money and putting it out there so people see it is always a great thing,” he added.
October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and proceeds from Wednesday’s game went to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation was established in 1982 by Nancy Brinker to honor the memory of her sister, Susan G. Komen, who died from breast cancer at the age of 36.
Today, the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation is an international organization with a network of more than 75,000 volunteers working through local affiliates and events like the Komen Race for the Cure® to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease. Together with its Affiliate Network, corporate partners and generous donors, the Komen Foundation has raised more than $740 million for the fight against breast cancer.
The Lady Bengals continue their fall season at home on Sunday at noon when they host the Orange Crush travel team from Beaumont, Texas.
