Lady Bengals Split Games in Classic

EUNICE – The Louisiana State University at Eunice Lady Bengal basketball team fell to Florida Community College and defeated Mississippi Gulf Coast in the Lady Bengal Classic held here over the weekend. 

The fifth-ranked team in NCJAA Division II, LSUE, lost 77-56 to Florida Community College a Division I team and beat Mississippi Gulf Coast 88-80.

In the match up against Florida CC, the Lady Bengals fell behind early.  The Lady Stars opened up a 22-9 lead and continued to pull away from LSUE. 

By halftime, the Lady Bengals were down 44-20.

Even with strong showings by LSUE’s freshmen Lacey Thibodeux and Casey Primeaux in the second half, the Lady Bengals could not overcome the 20-point deficit. 

Kayla Armstrong scored 10 points in the contest while Quinishia Perkins and Primeaux each added seven points.

In game one, LSUE edged out Mississippi Gulf Coast 43-37 in the first half behind the offensive attack of Armstrong and Katelyn Gary.

Gary scored 16 points in the game, 12 of which came in the first half.  Armstrong scored 26 points and Primeaux dropped in three three-point baskets to finish with 12 points on the night. 

LSUE held on to win 88-80.

In additional action in the Classic, Mississippi Gulf Coast fell to San Jacinto College 79-74 and Florida improved to 2-0 after defeating San Jacinto 60-63. 

LSUE host Louisiana College on Friday, Nov. 9 at 6 p.m.
