SCOTTSDALE, AZ – Despite being down 14 points late in the game, the LSU Eunice Lady Bengals never stopped fighting and pulled off an amazing come-from-behind 82-80 win over Scottsdale Community College here Monday night.

The Lady Bengals (6-7) took an early lead, but at the 14:32 point in the first half, Scottsdale took over, shooting 51 percent from the floor.

With three minutes left in the half, The Lady Artichokes (2-5) lead by seven points, but a three-pointer by Jennifer Hicks and baskets by Danielle Morgan and Quanessa Batiste cut Scottsdale’s halftime lead to two points.

Hicks finished the night with nine points, while Morgan had 13 and eight rebounds.  Batiste scored 13 points and had six steals.

The Lady Bengals continued to look flat in the second half, shooting only 34 percent from the floor.  With nine minutes left in the game, Scottsdale had opened up a 14-point lead.

But Morgan and Mallory Thorton’s  6-0 run closed the gap and Candance LaCombe’s back-to-back three-point baskets left Scottsdale with only a four point lead.

“I take my hat off to these girls,” said LSUE head coach Michael Bari.  “They never stopped fighting.”

With two minutes left in regulation, Batiste stole the ball from a Lady Artichoke and her easy layup gave the Lady Bengals their first lead of the game since the open minutes of the first half.  LSUE would never trail again.

Lacombe lead the team in scoring and rebounding.  She had 17 points and 11 rebounds.  Amanda Fontenot finished with seven points, six rebounds and five steals.

LSUE continues their trip through Arizona with games against Pima Community College, Glendale Community College and South Mountain Community College.
