EUNICE – It didn’t take the Bengals long to rebound from their first loss of the season. LSUE swept the East Central Community College Warriors 4-3, 5-1 here Saturday. 

The Bengals (8-1) pulled out in front early in the first game when Delta Cleary scored off a Kellen Bozeman single to center field.

LSUE continued to pad their lead, adding runs in the third inning and fifth inning.  

In the fifth inning, it was Bozeman and Cleary doing the work again for the Bengals. Cleary singled and drove in Chase Blanchard. He then stole second and third bases and scored off a Bozeman sacrifice fly to center field, giving LSUE a 4-0 lead.

The Warriors gave the Bengals a scare in the top of the eighth inning, scoring three runs. Eric Ortego replaced Corey Lopez on the pitcher’s mound and struck out the final Warrior batter to stop the Warriors’ comeback effort. Ortego picked up a save and Lopez was credited with the win. 

In game two, LSUE again took an early lead, scoring runs in the first four innings.

In the first inning, Cleary scored off a Matt Creel single and in the second inning, Chase Blanchard hit a double to centerfield, driving in Boomer Blanchard. The Bengals were up 2-0. 

In the third inning, the Warriors threaten, but left runners in scoring position stranded on base.

LSUE added another run on the bottom of the inning when Creel scored off a double to left field by Bozeman. 

The Bengals added two runs in the fourth inning off a Cleary single, giving LSUE a 5-0 lead.

East Central, tried managed to squeeze out a run in the top of the sixth inning, but ended the inning with three men on base. 

Cleary finished the doubleheader 3-for-6 with 3 runs and 3 RBIs; Boomer Blanchard was 4-for-6 with 2 runs and an RBI. Kellen Bozeman was 3-for-5 with 3 RBIs. Chase Blanchard finished 2-for-5 with 2 runs scored.
