Bengals Sweep Wharton in Doubleheader
EUNICE – It was the second time this season the LSUE Bengal Baseball Team met up with Wharton Junior College. The two teams split games in earlier action, but this time around, LSUE pounded Wharton 11-1 and 7-4 to sweep here Monday.
In game one of the doubleheader, LSUE opened up a three run lead early in the contest and then exploded in the final three innings with eight runs.
Corey Lopez (8-0) picked up the win in game one, allowing three hits and striking out five.
Chase Blanchard, Boomer Blanchard and Matt Creel were each 2-for-3 in the contest and each had a pair of RBIs.
In game two, LSUE took an early two run lead, but Wharton chipped away to pull within one. The Bengals batters unloaded in the bottom of the fourth inning, knocking in three runs and keeping the game out of reach.
Creel was 4-for-4 with two runs scored in game 2, while Delta Cleary 3-for-4 and four RBIs. Brandon Chambers (4-0) picked up the win.
The toped ranked Bengals improved to 38-8 on the year.
