MILLINGTON, Tenn. – LSU Eunice made a statement early in the 2008 NJCAA Divsion II World Series.  The Bengals hit three home runs in the bottom of the first inning to win 7-4 over Des Moines Area CC  in the final game of the first day in the 2008 NJCAA Division II World Series. 

With the win the Bengals (49-12) advance in the winners bracket and will face Elgin Community College (32-14)Sunday at 7:30 p.m.

Ryan Boudreaux pitched 8 1/3 innings with 12 strikeouts and was pitching  a shutout until Des Moines (48-17) scored four runs in the ninth inning. 

LSUE wasted no time getting on the scoreboard by piling up four runs in the first inning.  Boomer Blanchard led of the inning with a shot over the left field wall and then with two outs, Kellen Bozeman knocked a home run out of USA Stadium.  After a Tyler Slocum double, Perry Smith crushed the third home run over the left field fence to give the Bengals an early 4-0 lead. 

The Bengals added a run in the fifth and two in the eighth inning.

Des Moines struggled early, but rallied in the final inning, adding four runs on the board. 

Josh Bailey for the Bengals ended the Bears' hope of a come-from-behind victory by striking out the last batter and sending Des Moines to the loser's bracket where they will play defending champion Longview Sunday at noon.
