UPDATE: Lenoir defeated Monroe Community College in an elimination game, so LSUE and Lenoir will battle for the national title at 7:30 PM Thursday night.  Lenoir must beat LSUE twice to win the title.

MILLINGTON, TENN. – The LSU Eunice Bengal baseball team advanced to the finals of the NJCAA Division II World Series here Wednesday after knocking off top-ranked Lenoir Community College 13-3 in six innings.

The Bengals will play the winner of the Lenoir – Monroe Community College game in the finals Thursday night at 7:30 p.m.

Both Lenoir and Monroe have one loss in the national tournament and would have to beat LSUE twice to win the national title.  The Bengals, who remain undefeated in the tournament, needs only one win to take home their second national title in Division II baseball.

LSUE and Lenoir started the game last night under wet conditions.  A steady, light rain fell through most of the ballgame which was eventually stopped in the fourth after field conditions worsened.  When the game was stopped, LSUE was up 7-3 with men on second and third base with one out.

Once the game restarted this afternoon, LSUE wasted no time extending their lead.

Perry Smith’s triple to left field drove in the two runs and then Nate Peterson’s home run gave the Bengals an 11-3 advantage.

Josh Bailey came into replace Corey Lopez on the pitcher’s mound for LSUE and Bailey allowed just one hit in two innings, while the Bengal batters continued to dominate.

Kellan Bozeman hit a monster home run over the scoreboard in left field in the bottom of the sixth inning and then Chase Blanchard hit a single, driving in the winning run to give LSUE the 13-3 victory and a spot in the finals.
