Fontenot's triple-double leads way for easy victory
LSUE Basketball
DALLAS – Last Friday night proved to be a special night for LSUE’s freshman point guard Amanda Fontenot. She became the first player this season to record a triple-double for the Lady Bengals in a 106-51 victory over Mountain View College.
The former Opelousas Catholic standout finished the night with 14 points, ten rebounds, and ten assists.
Just days after recording her career high in points and assists against Delgado, Fontenot quickly topped her points mark, scoring her 14th with five minutes to go in the Mountain View game.
However, the final two components of the triple-double didn’t come quite as easy. Fontenot needed two more rebounds and assists to complete the milestone.
An offensive board and a loose ball came nearly consecutively, allowing her to pick up her 9th and 10th rebound. A quick hitting three-pointer basket by Jennifer Hicks, and an outlet pass to a fast-breaking Candace Lacombe sealed her 9th and 10th assists, to complete the feat.
“It was hard fought because she needed two rebounds with a few minutes left, and considering her position on the floor, those are too hard to come by,” said assistant coach Eric Hood after the contest. “I have all the confidence in her ability to get another one before the season is out.”
Fontenot is currently ranked ninth among all Division II players in assists per game with 5.8. She and the rest of the Lady Bengals will reconvene Saturday to take a matchup with the Louisiana Ladies, an all-star squad of pass Lady Bengal players.
