It wasn’t a clone of last year’s season opener, but in the end the result was the same. The LSU Eunice Lady Bengals were victorious Sunday in an 83-66 win over Andrew College.
Last season, LSUE opened with Andrew College, winning 91-44. The Lady Bengals are now 3-0 all-time versus Andrew.
Erica Noel led the team in scoring with 16 points, going 6-14 from the field, and adding 12 rebounds.
Jennifer Hicks scored 15 points, and had 7 blocks. Those put Hicks’ career total to 79, propelling her past Casey Broussard’s school record of 72 blocks in a career.
Twanisha Tillman and
Sierra Goldwire also added 3 blocks each, giving the team a record 14 blocked shots.
Allison Ledoux started the year off right, hitting the very first field goal of the season for the team for a quick three point lead. The Bengals never squandered that lead, and extended it to 18 at halftime.
The second half started out even better for LSUE, extending the halftime lead to 31 points with 8 minutes to play in regulation. But Andrew found their second wind, and combined with a Lady Bengal drought, the deficit started to close.
Andrew’s Joy Hoskins lead the Lady Tigers with 19 points, and was a constant thorn in the Bengals side. Hoskins was 6-13 from the field and had 4 steals, but fouled out with a little less than 5 minutes to play in the game.
In the 11-year history of LSU Eunice Women’s Basketball, the Lady Bengals are 8-3 in season opening games, 5-1 under Head Coach Michael Bari. This was the third time the Lady Bengals have opened on the road, going 2-1 in those games. LSUE’s next games are against two teams from Kansas, Allen Community College and Butler Community College. The games are scheduled to begin at 8 pm on Friday night against Allen, and at 4 pm versus Butler as part of the LSUE Fall Classic.
