It was just another day at the office for Sierra Goldwire (Clyo, GA).

Her team leading 14 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 blocks helped propel LSU Eunice over Cottey College 66-53 Monday night.

For a game with only 119 combined points on the scoreboard, the pace was fast and furious. LSUE started out with a bang, scoring on each of their first four possessions, causing Cottey coach Dave Ketterman to call a timeout. On the ensuing possession, Cottey’s Bailey Beale was able to score two points, but a Twanisha Tillman (New Orleans, LA) three-pointer and Goldwire block leading to another Tillman fast break layup put the Lady Bengals lead into double digits.

From that point on, the Bengals would not relinquish that lead. Cottey was able to mount a small run in the second half, cutting the margin to eight with seven minutes left to play, but that would be as close as they could get the rest of the game.

LSU Eunice moves to 7-3 on the season, while Cottey falls to 3-5.

Tillman, who was on pace for her best offensive outburst of the season to begin the game, was only able to play 14 minutes. She was hampered by early foul trouble, forcing her to sit most of the first half. The second half was not much different, with her fifth and final foul being called on her with 7:41 left to play in the game.

Ashley Qualls (Rayville, LA) was able to pick up where she left off though, grabbing five rebounds in the closing minutes of the game, keeping LSUE’s lead safe.

Other notable performances in the game belong to Amanda Fontenot (Washington, LA), who scored 13 points and 6 assists. Erica Noel (Carencro, LA) and Jennifer Hicks (Bossier City, LA) each added 8 points, with Hicks grabbing 11 rebounds, and Noel eight rebounds. Hicks also had three blocks, adding to the team’s 12 total for the game. In a strange box score instance, the Lady Bengals also had 12 assists and 12 steals on top of the 12 team blocks.

This game marks the end of a rough scheduling stretch for the Lady Bengals, who have spent the three out of the last four weekends on the road. They will now have a small hiatus until their trip to Arizona in mid-December.
