Lady Bengals Defeat Bossier for First Time; Off to 2-5 Start.

EUNICE – The LSUE Softball team opened the season this week, facing six different schools in seven games. While the Lady Bengals finished the week 2-5, Coach Andy Lee expects to improve as the girls head to Mississippi for four games at the Pearl River Tournament.

 

The Lady Bengals kickoff the season in Galveston, where the squad fell to Western Texas 9-1, Howard College 17-14, Seminole State 13-8 and McLennan Community College 14-12. LSUE knocked off Temple College 9-7 at the Tournament.

 

The girls then split games with Bossier Parish Community College here this week. The Lady Bengals, despite a late rally, lost the first contest 10-8 and then defeated Bossier for the first time in school history 8-5 in the second game which was delayed due to rain.

 

After seven games, Hayley Sanchez, Chasity Fontenot and Bridge Waller are leading the team in batting. The team as a whole has recorded an impressive 0.353 batting average.

 

Sanchez, who has a 0.600 batting average has played in six games, has nine hits in 15 at bats. Sanchez has nine RBI and has scored eight runs.

 

Fontenot has played in all seven games, earning a .423 batting average. She has 8 RBI and 8 runs scored. Waller is 7-for-15 through five games. She has five runs scored.

 

Rhea Person leads LSUE with two home runs. She’s batting .455 after four games.
