Bengals Sweep Hinds to Open Season 3-0

EUNICE – The LSU Eunice Bengal baseball team swept Hinds Community College over the weekend, knocking off the Eagles 9-3, 8-7, and 9-1.

In the opening game of the series, LSUE (3-0) jumped out to a three-run lead, but Hinds (0-3) chipped away and closed to within one run by the bottom of the fifth inning.  The second ranked Bengals exploded in the final three innings of play, adding six runs to win 9-3.

Joey Bourgeois picked up the win for the Bengals in the first game.  Bourgeois struck out seven in five innings and gave up two runs on five runs.

In game two, the first three innings were dominated by Hinds, who scored seven runs.  The resilient Bengal squad added five runs in the final four innings to take a one run advantage and win 8-7.

Chance Mistric earned the win in the second game.  Mistric struck out four batters in six innings and allowed just one hit.

In the final game of the series, LSUE cruised to a 9-0 lead in the first four innings, holding Hinds to just three hits and one run.  Hinds’ lone run came in the final inning.

Picking up the win for the Bengals was Dane Amedee, who struck out seven in five innings.

Leading the Bengals in batting for the series was Trey Watkins, who finished 8-for-12 with three RBIs and two stolen bases.  Zach Kirksey was 3-for-7 with three RBIs, Caleb Clowers finished 3-for-9 and recorded two RBIs.  Seth Granger was 3-for-11, had a home run in the first game and drove in four runs.  He also had two stolen bases

The Bengals will host Mississippi Delta Community College Saturday and Sunday.  Saturday’s doubleheader action begins at 3 p.m.  Sunday’s game kicks off at 1 p.m.
