LSUE and Delgado split doubleheader

Saturday April 11th, Eunice, LA – The LSUE baseball team (37-6) split a doubleheader today versus Delgado Community College (28-11). Chance Mistric (10-0) pitched a no-hitter in game one while walking one batter and striking out eight. Mistric notched his third shutout of the season and eight complete game.  Trey Watkins of Destrehan High School went 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, four RBI’s and two stolen bases to lead the Bengals offensively. Three other Bengals; Zach Kirksey, Caleb Clowers, and Brook Boudreaux, recorded multiple hits with Clowers tallying two RBI’s. Kirksey and Boudreaux had two stolen bases apiece.

In game two, LSUE starting pitcher Joey Bourgeios (8-1) suffered his first defeat of the season. Bourgeios pitched five innings, giving up five hits and six earned runs while walking five batters and striking out eight. Two Bengals recorded two hits apiece in Watkins and Boudreaux. the loss in game two snapped the Bengals 10 game winning streak.

The Bengals are off until next Friday night, April 17th, when they travel to play Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC) at Pete Goldsby field in Baton Rouge with the single nine-inning game time set for 6 pm. Then, BRCC returns the trip to Eunice on Saturday, April 18th, for a three-way round-robin with East Central Mississippi.
