Bengals win two versus Mississippi Gulf Coast
Monday April 27th, Eunice, LA – The LSUE Baseball team (44-7) swept Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in a doubleheader today at Bengal Stadium. The Bengals won game one by a score of 6-1. Joey Bourgeois (10-1) of Lutcher High School earned the win going eight innings, allowing three hits, one unearned run, with two walks and eight strikeouts. Offensivley, LSUE was led by Trey Watkins of Destrehan High school and Caleb Clowers of West Monroe who collected three hits apiece. Les Aulds and Zach Kirksey, both of West Monroe, had two RBI’s apiece.
In game two, the Bengals scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh for the 5-4 come from behind victory. Brennan Flick (2-0) of Central Cathoic High in Morgan City pitched 2 2/3 hitless innings of relief to pick up the win in relief of starter Stefan Comeaux. Comeaux pitched four innings allowing two hits and two earned runs with three walkd and five strikeouts. Flick added four strikeouts. At the plate, Aulds and Kirksey tallied two hits apiece. Auld’s second hit scored the tying run in the bottom of the seventh and Kirksey’s second hit drove in the winning run.
The Bengals next game will be Wednesday April 29th at Bossier Parish Community College. The game is set to begin at 6 pm and will be played at Fairgrounds Field in Shreveport.
