Bengals split with Southern

Friday May 8th, Baton Rouge, LA – In its' final regualr season games, the LSUE Baseball team (45-10) split a doubleheader with Southern University this afternoon. Southern won the first game by a 9-8 score, while the Bengals won the second by a score of 13-8. In game one, Joey Bourgeois (10-2) of Lutcher High suffered the loss pitching four innings, allowing 10 hits and five earned run, while walking two and striking out four. Offensively, every batter in the LSUE starting line-up recorded at least one hit. Les Aulds of West Monroe led the way going 4-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored, and Ryan Broussard of Breaux Bridge went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a double.

In game two, Dustin Fulks of Simpson earned the win in relief of starter Stefan Comeaux. Fulks pitched three scoreless innings of relief and recorded two strikeouts. At the plate, each batter in the Bengals starting line-up recorded at least one hit. Trey Watkins of Destrehan went 2-for-5 with a triple and four RBI’s, and Ryan Broussard went 2-for-2 with two RBI’s and three runs scored.

The games today complete the regular season schedule for the Bengals. They will now play in the Region 23 Tournament beginning Thursday May 14th and running through Saturday May 16th. That tournament will be played in Eunice at Bengal Stadium. LSUE will play at 7:00 pm on the 14th with their opponent yet to be determined.
