Outside of the gym, the temperature was below freezing. While inside, the Lady Bengals’ shooting was even colder.

But despite the low shooting percentage, LSU Eunice (11-6) came out on top over Southern University – Shreveport (0-8) 66-64.

The Lady Bengals (#18, NJCAA Poll) struggled mightily from the field, starting out 1-10 in the first six minutes of play. The Lady Jags however were also struggling, as they started 3-12, but were also committing fouls. The subsequent free-throws were keeping the Bengals heads above water.

The Lady Bengals were down as much as nine points with 5:21 to play in the first half. But LSU Eunice was prepared to mount a comeback. Big baskets from Ashley Qualls and Allison Ledoux allowed the Lady Bengals to take a 29-26 halftime lead into the locker room.

The second half was a different story entirely. The Lady Bengals jumped out to a 12 point lead on the heels of Erica Noeland a big three-pointer by Jennifer Hicks.

The Lady Jags would rally back, and close to gap to just one point with 1:44 to play. In order to stop the clock, Southern began to foul, but their plan was thwarted by Amanda Fontenot, who drained the necessary free throws to keep the game out of their reach.

Noel led all scorers with 18 points alongside Simone Brewer for Shreveport. Hicks and Twanisha Tillmaneach finished with 10 points. Fontenot recorded 10 assists, her third straight game recording double-digit assists.
