Lady Bengals Drop Debut Versus Baton Rouge
The Lady Bengals were hoping to get the upper hand in what will be a rivalry for years to come when they played their first game ever against Baton Rouge Community College. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case on Wednesday, when they dropped the decision 98-72.
The Lady Bears, led by head coach and athletic director Michael Landers, brought their pressure-filled defense to a fever pitch, forcing the Lady Bengals to turn the ball over 32 times. The Bengals have only turned the ball over more times in one game this season, in the opener versus Andrew College 33 times.
Landers, who left Trinity Valley Community College to take over at BRCC, has traditionally run a full-court pressure defense.
The Lady Bengals also had an uncharacteristically low 60 field goal attempts. This, along with the unforced errors, was the main reason for the 26 point deficit.
Kiara Etienne led the game in scoring with 28 points. She was 12-26 from the field, and 4-14 from three-point range. She was one of the four Bears to score in double digits.
Erica Noel led the Bengals in scoring with 19 points. Sierra Goldwire added 10 rebounds and a career-high seven blocks.
The Lady Bengals will serve as hostesses this weekend during the first annual LSU Eunice Athletic Hall of Fame Banquet. The keynote speaker will be former MLB All-Star Will Clark. Then on Tuesday, they will play host once again, this time versus Delgado Community College at 7 pm.
