The Lady Bengals were determined to prove that last Wednesday’s loss was a fluke.

And on Tuesday night they did just that, after defeating Delgado Community College 78-65.

LSU Eunice was able to immediately end a losing streak by playing a much more inspired brand of basketball this time out. After turning the ball over 32 times in the previous contest, the ladies were able to almost cut in half their amount to 18.

The Lady Bengals got off to a hot start, shooting 50% from the field in the first half, but were only able to command a 39-33 halftime lead. Delgado’s Missy Scrubbs had 10 of her 13 points in the first half.

In the second half, LSU Eunice shot a little less efficiently from the field, but was able to connect at the free throw line when necessary to keep the winning margin at 13.

Delgado’s Jamey Ellis led the game in points scored, with 24 points on 7-12 shooting. She was also 5-7 from three, and at the free throw line.

Jennifer Hicks led the way for the Lady Bengals with 19 points. She also added seven rebounds and five assists. She was one of four LSU Eunice players to have double digit point totals. Amanda Fontenot scored eight points, as well as eight assists. That continued her streak of having eight-plus assists in a game to five straight. She now stands at third in the nation in assists per game.
