Bengals Sweep Wolves
Sunday February 28th, Eunice, LA – The LSU Eunice baseball team (15-2) won both games of a doubleheader today against Copiah-Lincoln Community College (5-7) from Wesson, MS. In game one, the Bengals won my a 5-4 score. Mitchell Hopkins (5-0) of University High earned the win pitching 5 2/3 innings, allowing six hits, three runs; all earned, with three walks and four stikeouts. Ryan Broussard earned his first save of the season pitching the final inning.
Offensively, Zach Kirksey of West Monroe went 2-for-3 with two singles and Brook Boudreaux of Teurlings Catholic had a 2 RBI double.
In the second game, the Bengals won by a score of 6-3. Joe Fabre (1-0) of Catholic of Pointe Coupee picked up the victory pitching 5 2/3 innings, allowing six hits with no earned runs and no walks while striking out three. Fabre was relieved by Dustin Fulks of Simpson. Fulks recorded the last out of the sixth inning before Co-Lin loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the seventh having plated one run. Then, Ben Carter entered in relief of Fulks to record his first save of the season by inducing a game ending double play.
At the plate, Andrew Reeves of Parkview Baptist went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Les Aulds of West Monroe and Gabriel Thibodeaux of St. Louis Catholic added one hit and two RBI’s apiece. Aulds also scored two runs.
The Bengals next action will be in the Hinds Community College tournament in Raymond, MS. Tournament play for the Bengals will begin on Saturday March 6th. Check the schedule on the LSU Eunice athletics website for game time(s) and opponent(s).
