LSU Eunice at Wes Cliburn Memorial Tournament (Day Two)
On Sunday, March 7th, the LSU Eunice Baseball team (18-3) completed competition in the Wes Cliburn Memorial Tournament hosted by Hinds Community College in Raymond, MS. Day two saw the Bengals face Kishwaukee College from Malta, IL and the host team Hinds. LSU Eunice defeated Kishwaukee by a score of 16-6 in the first game. Dane Amedee (2-0) received the win pitching four innings, allowing three hits and four earned runs with three walks and four strikeouts.
At the plate, Jacque Fruge went 4-for-4 with two homeruns and seven RBI’s. Brook Boudreaux and Jordan Bourque collected three hits each. Boudreaux had a homerun, three runs scored, and three RBI’s, and Bourque had two doubles, two runs scored, and two RBI’s.
In game two, the Bengals defeated Hinds 13-6. Mitchell Hopkins (6-0) picked up the win pitching four plus innings, allowing six hits and five earned runs with three walks and five strikeouts. Dustin Fulks and Kaleb Manuel came on to combine pitching 2 1/3 perfect innings of relief. Offensively, four Bengals collected multiple hits.
Jacque Fruge led the way going 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI’s. Brook Boudreaux, Raph Rhymes, and Eldred Barnett each had two hits. Rhymes and Barnett added two RBI’s apiece.
The Bengals will be back on the field on Tuesday March 9th at Bengal Stadium. That contest will feature a three-way with Kellogg, MI and Mississippi Gulf Coast. The schedule those games are as follows: LSU Eunice vs. Kellogg 12 pm; Kellogg vs. Miss Gulf Coast 3 pm.; LSU Eunice vs. Miss Gulf Coast 6 pm.
