While the weather in Eunice has been cool lately, nobody could have expected the unseasonably cool start for the Lady Bengals.  After their first three games of the 2011-12 season, LSU Eunice has started 0-3, the first start of such kind under head coach Michael Bari.

The Lady Bengals were swept last weekend in the Baton Rouge Community College Fall tournament by the host Lady Bears and San Jacinto College.

San Jacinto, who had not had recent success against LSU Eunice, clinched the victory by a 94-56 score on Friday evening, on the shoulders of a 26-point outing by Jessica Hines.  The Lady Bengals were once again plagued by missed shots, only hitting on 27 percent for the game.  Tyler Compton led the Bengals in scoring with 17 points.

Hoping to rebound and get the first win of the year, the Lady Bengals faced off with host Baton Rouge Community College on Saturday afternoon.  Unfortunately, while the shooting efficiency did increase overnight, the turnover count was out of control.  The Lady Bengals lost to BRCC 66-58 on the heels of 40 LSU Eunice turnovers, an all-time high.  Tyler Compton coupled her tournament with a second 17-point performance, but also racked up a team record 13 turnovers.  Mia Melvin and Keondra Moore each committed seven turnovers as well off of the bench.  Rhondalon Popularas led BRCC in scoring with 15 points.

LSU Eunice does have a chance to get back to their winning ways this weekend with a three-day home tournament beginning Thursday evening.  LSU Eunice will host Southwestern Christian College at 8 p.m on Thursday, with a 6 p.m matinee featuring Harcum College (Maryland) vs. Baton Rouge Community College.  Friday’s matchups will pit Harcum vs. Southwestern (6 p.m.) and LSU Eunice vs. Baton Rouge CC (8 p.m), and on Saturday, LSU Eunice will open competition against Harcum at 11 a.m, and BRCC will take on Southwestern Christian College at 2 p.m.
