Lady Bengals Escape With Victory
Box Score BAY MINETTE, Ala. -- Sophomore
Melissa Bridges led the way for the Lady Bengals on their way to a 60-57 win over Faulkner State Community College. The win gives LSU Eunice a record of 5-4, propelling the team above .500 for the first time this season.
Bridges, who averages 10.2 points per game, shot 6-12 from the field, including 4-8 from beyond the three-point arc, garnering a team high 16 points. Sophomore
Tyler Compton flirted with a triple-double, collecting 8 points, 8 assists, and 7 rebounds.
The Lady Bengals stalled the Sun Cheifs defensively, holding them to 3-30 shooting from the field, and only 13 first half points. Faulkner scored 44 points in the second half, benefitting from 17 second-half free throws, nine from Faulkner's Tykeria Johnson, who led her team with 23 points.
The Lady Bengals enjoyed a comfortable lead until the final minute, in which Faulker scored 8 straight points, cutting the lead to 58-55. Freshman
Precious Robinson hit a clutch shot with 20 seconds left to extend the lead to five, ending Faulkner's chance for a comeback victory.
Kelsey Thibodeaux also contributed with 8 second-half points, including two 3-pointers, both with 10 seconds left to go on the shot clock.
This concludes the Fall Semester portion of LSU Eunice's schedule, in which the team takes a hiatus for Final exams. The team resumes play again on the West coast, playing four games in five days in Arizona. The first of those games is
scheduled for December 12, versus Scottsdale Community College, at 6 p.m. Mountain Time, 7 p.m Eunice time. That game is scheduled to be broadcast live on
KVPI.
