Lady Bengals Open Season with 3-1 Start

The defending national championship and pre-season #1 Lady Bengal Softball team opened the 2012 season with wins over Heartland and Chipola Colleges, but fell to San Jacinto.

The topped ranked girls’ team in NJCAA Division II beat Heartland in action Saturday and Sunday.  Saturday, the girls jumped out with 8 runs in the first two innings to cruise to an 11-3 victory.  On Sunday, LSU Eunice knocked off Heartland is similar style, jumping out to a 4-0 lead and then using a 5-run sixth inning to win 11-3.

The Lady Bengals also shutout Chipola College on Sunday.  The squad put up 3 3-run innings and limited Chipola to just four hits to win 9-0.

LSU Eunice’s only loss during the opening weekend was to San Jacinto College.  While the girls started off with a 4-run lead, San Jac chipped away at the lead and busted the game open with a 4-run sixth inning to win 9-6.

The Lady Bengals start the season 3-1 and will face five teams, including San Jac again, in the Galveston College tournament this weekend.
