The LSU Eunice Lady Bengal basketball team cracks the lid on its 2012-2013 home schedule on Monday night as they welcome Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College to town for a 6 p.m. tipoff inside the HPRE Center.

LSU Eunice (2-0) is coming off an eight-day layoff after a pair of wins over Mountain View College in Dallas on Nov. 2 and 3, while Mississippi Gulf Coast comes into the game undefeated (3-0) as well.

The Lady Bulldogs began their season with an eight-point win on the road against Faulkner State on Nov. 1 before a pair of big wins at Delgado Community College (82-46) on Nov. 6 and at home against Bishop State Community College (75-33) on Nov. 8.

In their game against Bishop State, Mississippi Gulf Coast was led by Hellanisa Young’s 15 points, while Malaney Nickey had 12 points and Yasmine Nelson added 10 points. No other season statistics are currently available for MGCC.

Through two games, the Lady Bengals are led in scoring by Meghan Cross, who is averaging 17.0 points/game. Lida Politopoulou (14.0/game), Brooke Richard (13.5/game) and Taylor Hurd (10.5/game) are also all averaging double digits for LSU Eunice.

On the national stage, Politopoulou leads the country in assists per game, as her 10.0 average is tops in the NJCAA women’s Division I basketball.

Monday night’s contest will be the 20th meeting between LSU Eunice and Mississippi Gulf Coast. The Lady Bengals are just 5-14 all-time against MGCC, including dropping both games between the two teams last year. LSU Eunice’s last win in the series came back on Jan. 2, 2010, when they won by a 77-66 final score.
