The LSU Eunice women’s basketball team saw Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College shot the lights out from long-range on Tuesday night en route to a 94-47 Lady Bengal loss in Perkinston, Mississippi.

Mississippi Gulf Coast (6-2) shot an astounding 61 percent from three-point range in the first half to break out to a 46-16 halftime advantage before finishing the night shooting 55 percent from behind the line.

MGCCC didn’t miss from the rest of the floor either, finishing the night with an overall 41 percent shooting percentage from the floor in the win.

“They didn’t miss. It was a tough night,” head coach Michael Bari said.

“You shoot like (we did), and that’s what’s happened the last four games, we just haven’t shot the basketball, and you catch a team on fire that’s at home and that’s going to be what the result is,” he added.

The Lady Bengals (3-4) dropped their fourth-straight contest after shooting just 19 percent from the floor in the first half, and 13 percent from three-point range. They responded with a 31-point second half effort and finished the night shooting 26 percent from the floor and 20 percent from long-range.

Meghan Cross was the only Lady Bengal to record a double-digit scoring night, finishing with 13 points, while Brooke Richard scored eight points for LSU Eunice as well.

Lida Politopoulou and Bobbi Montibon each tallied six points, Feleshia Walters added five points, Taylor Hurd scored a lone three-point basket and three Lady Bengals (Kate Faulk, Chesley Dubroc and Taylor Perry) each totaled two points to round out the scoring effort.

Shameika Hart led the way for Mississippi Gulf Coast, scoring 28 points and knocking down seven three-point baskets. Samara Dingiswayo added 16 points with five three-point baskets and Malaney Nickey scored 12 points to round out the MGCCC double-digit scorers.

The Lady Bengals now turn around with a pair of home contest this weekend, first hosting Angelina College on Friday night at 6 p.m. before squaring off with Dodge City Community College at 5 p.m. on Saturday night.

“We’ve got to get some stuff done on offense quickly and work on our defense again. We’ve got to get back to what we were doing,” Bari said of this weekend’s upcoming games.

Both games can be seen on Bengal All-Access.
