Lady Bengals pour it on in second half to snap losing skid
Box Score The LSU Eunice women’s basketball team used a fired-up second half run to snap their four game losing skid as they defeated visiting Dodge City Community College 88-72 on Saturday night.
Trailing the entire first half before knotting the score just before halftime, the Lady Bengals went into the break fired up with the score tied at 42-all.
In the second half, the Lady Bengals found the solution to their recent shooting woes, applying defensive pressure as they took the lead with just over 15 minutes to play and never looked back, closing the game on a 37-24 run.
LSU Eunice (4-5) finished the night shooting 45 percent from the field and knocking home 52 percent of their three-point attempts. Dodge City (5-6) was held to 41 percent shooting from the field and a 45 percent mark from long range.
"It was a big win for us today to stop our losing streak. We finally shot the ball like we have been waiting to all season," head coach Michael Bari said.
"We rebounded the ball and executed better than we have been. Very proud of my team," he added.
Lida Politopouolou and
Meghan Cross each finished with 20 points to pace the Lady Bengals, with Cross hitting four three-point baskets and Politopoulou knocking in three of her own from behind the stripe.
Brooke Richard tallied 12 points, carried by three three-point baskets, while
Chesley Dubroc also finished with 12 points, including six-straight points towards the end of the first half as the Lady Bengals gained momentum.
Kate Faulk added nine points off the bench for the Lady Bengals, while
Taylor Hurd added nine points and
Feleshia Walters had four points to round out the LSU Eunice scoring.
For Dodge City, Kelli Tolar was the night’s high-scorer with a 22-point night, while Jameeshia Armstrong tallied 18 points and Nicole Salazar added 12 points.
The Lady Bengals take off next week as the girls focus on final exams before they travel to take on Faulkner State Community College on Friday night.
