#13 Blinn College too much for Lady Bengals
Box Score After playing an inspired first half, the LSU Eunice Lady Bengal basketball team was unable to carryover their effort in the second stanza, falling to #13 Blinn College 75-51 on Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Bengals (4-7) used a combination of offense and effective defense to put together a back and forth first half against Blinn, taking the lead on several occasions before the visitors used a six-point run to close the half with a 33-27 advantage.
In the second half, Blinn pulled away on the strength of their 45 percent shooting effort from the field. The visitors also shot 23 percent from three-point range and had a 77 percent clip from the free throw line.
“I thought we played an extremely good first half. We executed defensively fairly well, offensively, I thought we got into a rhythm, and I think we had the 13
th team in the country on the ropes,” head coach
Michael Bari said.
“We got up by two early in the second half, but we go into a spurt where we don’t play defense nor offense for six to eight minutes, and they get a 10-12 point lead,” he added.
LSU Eunice shot 29 percent from the field in the game and 31 percent from three-point range in the loss.
Taylor Hurd led all scorers with a 20-point scoring performance, while
Lida Politopoulou added 18 points of her own for the Lady Bengals.
Jordan Sweatt tallied five points,
Meghan Cross and
Kate Faulk each finished with three points, and
Brooke Richard notched two points to round out the LSU Eunice scoring.
Jazzmin Parker led Blinn College with 19 points, while Darrecia Harrison tallied 18 points to lead the visitors.
“We’ve got to take that first half and bottle it up and then open it up and use it in second halves,” Bari said of future games.
The Lady Bengals hit the road for the remainder of 2012, traveling to San Jacinto on Wednesday night before trekking to Florida to take part in the Palm Beach State Holiday Classic on Dec. 28 and 29.
