The LSU Eunice Lady Bengals saw a pair of free throws in the final seconds end their night against San Jacinto on Wednesday night, falling on the road 70-69.

A back and forth battle throughout the game, the Lady Bengals (4-8) took a one-point lead with 8.4 seconds to go after a pair of made free throws by Lida Politopoulou.

On the other end of the floor, San Jacinto (5-6) had a couple of attempts at the basket, as their initial shot was blocked by the Lady Bengals before their second attempt drew a whistle and a foul.

Two made free throws gave San Jacinto a one-point advantage before Politopoulou drove the length of the floor and into the lane, drawing contact as the ball bounced loose as the final horn sounded.

The Lady Bengals shot 46 percent from the floor for the game, including a 43 percent mark from three-point range. San Jacinto finished the night shooting 43 percent from the floor and 36 percent from three-point range.

“We played pretty well. We were able to defend, rebound and execute the offense. We lost by a point, but I thought we really played well today considering what’s been going on the last few games,” head coach Micheal Bari said.

Politopoulou led the Lady Bengals with a 25-point effort to lead all scorers, adding six rebounds, five assists and three steals. Chesley Dubroc added nine points, while Meghan Cross finished with eight points.

Taylor Hurd finished with seven points, five rebounds and three steals, while Brooke Richard also tallied seven points. Victoria Fontenot and Jordan Sweatt each finished with six points off the bench. Feleshia Walters rounded out the scoring with a single point but grabbed six rebounds.

Rikell McWright led San Jacinto with 20 points, while Ginnesica Lawler (16 points) and Julia Jackson (11 points) also finished in double digits.

The Lady Bengals will now break for the holidays until reconvening on Dec. 26 for the 16 hour trip to Florida, where they will play a pair of games on Dec. 28 and 29 to close out 2012.
