A relentless second half comeback attempt fell just short for the LSU Eunice Lady Bengal basketball team on Friday afternoon in Alabama, as they fell to Faulkner State Community College 79-65.

The Lady Bengals (4-6) trailed from the start, as Faulkner State built a huge first half lead spurred by their 42 percent shooting from the field in the opening frame.  However, LSU Eunice pushed back with a 15-7 run over the final 7:30 of the half to pull the halftime score to 40-24 thanks to Lida Politopoulou’s near half-court three point basket at the horn.

In the second half, the Lady Bengals kept chipping away at the Faulkner State advantage until they were finally able to cut their deficit down to single digits at 67-58 with 5:35 to go in the game.

Ultimately, that would be as close as LSU Eunice would come, running out of gas in their comeback attempt as Faulkner State was able to close out the game.

LSU Eunice finished the night shooting 34 percent from the floor and finishing with just five three-point baskets.

After their hot first half, Faulkner State ended the game shooting 42 percent from the floor and 29 percent from three-point range.

Taylor Hurd led the Lady Bengals with 20 points, adding eight rebounds to her stat line. Lida Politopoulou totaled 15 points and four assists, and Brooke Richard tallied 11 points and five rebounds.

Chesley Dubroc scored six points and added five rebounds, while Meghan Cross and Feleshia Walters each finished with five points. Cross grabbed five rebounds and Walters had four boards of her own.

The Lady Bengals now have a week to prepare for Blinn College, who will make the trip to Eunice next Saturday for a 2:00 p.m. tipoff.
