Softball Takes Two from St. Charles
EUNICE -- The LSU Eunice Softball team took two wins off NJCAA Division I ST. Charles Community College Lady Cougars. St. Charles, located in Cottleville, Missouri, opened their softball season against the NJCAA Division II defending national champions this weekend.
LSU Eunice won 12-7 in the first game of the doubleheader and 7-3 in the second. In both games, the Lady Bengals opened up massive early leads.
Game One
The Lady Bengals, lead by the batting of
Jaci Trahan (Delcambre High School) and
Emily Trahan (Vermilion Catholic High School), took an early 11-0 lead. Jaci Trahan finished 1-for-4 with 3 RBIs and Emily Trahan was 2-for-4 with 3 RBIs.
St. Charles' bats started connecting late in the game, with a pair of homeruns hit in the fifth inning, but LSU Eunice's lead was too large for the late comeback to overcome.
Alexi Reynolds (Dutchtown HS) gets with win for the Lady Bengals, She pitched 5 innings and allowed 6 hits.
Game Two
St. Charles got on the board first with a run in the top of the first, but the Lady Bengals drove in seven over the next two innings to secure the win. Strong showings by
Brooke Ort (Live Oak HS),
Logane Fuselier (Oberlin High School) and
Mariel Meche (Rayne HS) at the plate helped push LSU Eunice out in front. Both
Tina Schulz (Oak Ridge High School) and
Kelsey Hollier (Rayne HS) had home runs, as well.
Schulz earned th win on the mound for the Lady Bengals. She pitched the entire game, giving up only 3 runs and striking out 10.
