Lady Bengals begin conference play with road win in New Orleans
Box Score The LSU Eunice Lady Bengal basketball team opened conference play for the first time in school history on Wednesday night, coming away with a 58-53 road win over Delgado Community College.
The victory snapped a six-game losing streak for the Lady Bengals (5-11 overall, 1-0 MISS-LOU), who were playing the first conference game for any LSU Eunice team, using a solid team effort in all aspects of the game to grab the win.
Overall the Lady Bengals shot 37 percent from the floor and 42 percent from three-point range, while holding Delgado (10-8, 0-2) to just 30 percent shooting from the floor and 18 percent from behind the line.
LSU Eunice held a steady lead for most of the night, with the game in double digits throughout the first half. Their biggest lead of the night, a 23 point advantage, came with just under 10 minutes to play in the game before Delgado clawed back and made the game interesting over the final minutes.
“We won the game which is the most important thing. Our girls hung tough and didn’t get scared like we have in the past and we won on the road. Our first-ever conference game and we won it so we are really happy,” head coach
Michael Bari said.
Brooke Richard tied her career-high with a 17 point effort, while adding three rebounds, an assist and a steal in 39 minutes of action.
A pair of Lady Bengals notched double-doubles, with
Lida Politopoulou finishing the night with 11 points and 10 assists, while
Taylor Hurd grabbed 10 rebounds to go along with her 11 points. Politopoulou added five rebounds to her stat line, and Hurd passed out five assists as well.
Meghan Cross led all players with a game-high 11 rebounds, while she added seven points.

Delgado’s Andralina Marshell led all scorers with 18 points, while Lindsay Green and Raven Lyons each had 10 points – both off the bench – to round out the host’s top scorers.
LSU Eunice now travels to Meridian, Miss. to take on Meridian Community College on Saturday afternoon, part of their three game road trip to open conference play.
“They are going to be similar to Delgado, we are going to have to show up and put another good game together,” Bari said.
