Lady Bengals open conference play for first time with trip to Delgado
After an extended break, the LSU Eunice Lady Bengal basketball team will finally get back on the court Wednesday night against Delgado.
The game, which will mark the Miss-Lou Conference opener for the Lady Bengals, will be their first in 14 days following a leaking roof at the HPRE Center that forced the cancellation of a game and caused tonight’s contest to be moved to Delgado.
“We are very excited to play the first ever conference game for the LSU Eunice program. We haven’t played since Jan. 2 so the team is glad to get back into game situations,” head coach
Michael Bari said.
“Delgado is a very scrappy team and it is tough to play in their small gym, but we are ready to achieve our goal of winning the Miss-Lou Conference,” he added.
Delgado opened conference play Saturday against Meridian Community College. Delgado led by seven points at the half but could not hold back Meridian, falling 63-57 as Ali Sheppard and Jackie Breland led the scoring with 17 points each.
Overall Delgado is 10-7 overall but on a two game losing streak heading into tonight’s matchup. They hold a 6-1 record at home this season, and are averaging just 57.4 points per game.
LSU Eunice opens conference play 4-11 and averaging 65.6 points per game in those contests.
Lida Politopoulou leads the Lady Bengals in scoring, averaging 16.6 points/game, while
Taylor Hurd (13.4 points/game) and
Meghan Cross (12.9 points/game) are also averaging double-digits.
Tonight’s game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. tipoff and can be seen on
Bengal All-Access and heard over the airwaves on
KVPI 92.5 FM.
