Lady Bengals drop first conference contest on road in Meridian
Box Score The LSU Eunice Lady Bengal basketball team was unable to overcome 30 turnovers on Saturday afternoon on the road, falling to Meridian Community College 75-61 in Miss-Lou Conference play.
LSU Eunice’s 30 turnovers as a team was their most this season, made worse by the fact that 24 give aways were steals by Meridian.
Overall, the Lady Bengals (5-12 overall, 1-1 Miss-Lou Conference) shot just 35 percent from the field in the game and only 23 percent (nine makes) from behind the three point line.
Meridian (12-6, 2-1) shot 43 percent from the field, using full court pressure to push LSU Eunice into their 24 steals and giving the hosts fast-break opportunities and easy baskets most of the night. Meridian finished with 18 fast-break points in the game, while the Lady Bengals did not have any.
“We didn’t play very well. We had 30 and shot (35) percent, and you aren’t going to win any game like that, especially a conference game,” head coach
Michael Bari said.
“After our win at Delgado, I thought we would come out with a little more energy and we didn’t,” he added.
Lida Politopoulou led LSU Eunice with 19 points, adding four assists and four steals in the loss.
Chesley Dubroc notched 15 points inside, grabbing nine rebounds as well.
Meghan Cross finished with the game’s only double-double, scoring 14 points and pulling down 10 rebounds, while
Taylor Hurd filled her stat line with 11 points, five assists and four rebounds.
Brooke Richard added two points to round out the scoring for the Lady Bengals, adding 10 rebounds as well.
Gelese Lampton finished with a game-high 26 points for Meridian, who saw four players finish with double-digit point totals and also had all eight players record at least one rebound in the win.
LSU Eunice wraps up their three-game road trip on Wednesday night when they travel to Baton Rouge Community College, a yearly rival that now also is a conference matchup.
“They are probably the biggest team in the conference as far as size, so we are going to have to have our inside players step up more than today,” Bari said.
