Lady Bengals fall to nationally ranked Blinn College
Box Score The LSU Eunice women’s basketball team saw host Blinn College push the ball up and down the floor on the way to a 96-64 win in Brenham, Texas on Wednesday night.
Blinn, who improved to 14-0 and is currently ranked 14
th in the country, shot 46 percent from the floor and hit 50 percent of their three-point shots in the win.
The Lady Bengals (4-11) shot just 36 percent from the floor and 26 percent from behind the arc in the loss.
“It was competitive for 13 minutes there in the first half then they went on a run. They are very competitive and a good team, and we again let our guard down a little bit,” head coach
Michael Bari said.
The biggest stat of the night might have come in the rebounding category, with Blinn grabbing 65 total boards (35 in the first half) compared to LSU Eunice’s 37 rebounds for the game.
“(The second half) we just didn’t get back on defense. We just played catch up for the second half,” Bari added.
Lida Politopoulou led the Lady Bengals with 18 points, adding two rebounds, two steals and two assists in the loss.
Brooke Richard tallied 17 points while also grabbing three rebounds and passing out three assists at the point.
Meghan Cross scored 16 points for LSU Eunice, also pulling down five rebounds, while
Taylor Hurd rounded out the double-digit scorers with an 11-point performance of her own. Hurd added five rebounds, five assists and three steals as well.
For Blinn, Audrisa Harrison finished with a game-high 21 points to pace the offense that saw four double-digit scorers, while Shanequa Gaston grabbed 16 rebounds in the contest.
“I am still confident in this team. We show glimpses of greatness. I think we can be competitive in our conference and maybe that’s the time we turn things around and get on our good roll,” Bari said of the upcoming schedule.
The Lady Bengals now will reset and ready for a home matchup against Pensacola Junior College on Sunday afternoon before they begin conference play hosting Delgado Community College on Jan. 16.
