Lady Bengals prepare for road contest against Blinn College
The LSU Eunice Lady Bengals open the 2013 portion of their season on Wednesday night as they travel to take on Blinn College in Brenham, Texas.
An 18 day layoff will end for Blinn in tonight’s game, as they have been off since traveling to Eunice back on Dec. 15.
The first meeting saw the Lady Bengals use a combination of offense and effective defense to put together a back and forth first half against Blinn, taking the lead on several occasions before the visitors used a six-point run to close the half with a 33-27 advantage.
In the second half, Blinn pulled away on the strength of their 45 percent shooting effort from the field. They also shot 23 percent from three-point range and had a 77 percent clip from the free throw line.
LSU Eunice shot 29 percent from the field in the game and 31 percent from three-point range in the loss.
“We are excited to play the 14th-ranked team in the country. In our previous meeting the core didn’t indicate how close the game really was at our place,” head coach
Michael Bari said.
“It’s time for our team to step up and get a signature win before conference play starts,” he added.
Blinn will come into the matchup ranked No. 14 in the latest NJCAA national poll with a 13-0 record and averaging 81 points per game.
The Lady Bengals head into the game with a 4-10 record coming off a pair of loses in the Palm Beach State Holiday Classic on Dec. 28 and 29.
In their opening game in Florida, LSU Eunice saw tournament host Palm Beach State hit a free throw with 0.6 seconds remaining to come away with an 81-80 win before the Community College of Rhode Island used a strong second half to pull past the Lady Bengals 83-68 in the second game.
Tonight's game can be seen on Bengal All-Access and heard over the airwaves on KVPI 92.5 FM.
