Lady Bengals fall to Southern-Shreveport in conference play
Box Score The LSU Eunice Lady Bengal basketball team returned home for the first time in a month and a half on Saturday afternoon, tangling with Southern-Shreveport in Miss-Lou Conference action before falling 68-64 in the closing moments.
Southern Shreveport (10-7 overall, 3-1 Miss-Lou Confernce) led throughout before the Lady Bengals rallied to tie the game with 7:52 remaining. LSU Eunice took a one-point lead with just under six minutes to play before the game’s final minutes went back and forth.
The Lady Bengals (6-13, 2-2) had a couple of offensive possessions in the final 30 seconds, but were unable to find the bucket as Southern-Shreveport held on for the win.
“We didn’t shoot very well in the first half. I was very proud of our team for the way they caught up in the second half and we had a couple opportunities to win the game at the end, but came up empty,” head coach
Michael Bari said.
Southern-Shreveport shot over 50 percent in the opening half before finishing the night 27-for-55 (49%) from the floor. The Lady Bengals shot only 25 percent in the first stanza before finishing the night 22-for-53 (41%) from the floor in the game.
The Lady Bengals were paced by a career-high 19 points from
Chesley Dubroc inside, while
Lida Politopoulou added 18 points, including four three-point baskets.
Brooke Richard scored 14 points, 12 coming in the second half to round out the LSU Eunice double-digit scorers.
Meghan Cross and
Taylor Hurd each tallied five points,
Jordan Sweatt added two and
Feleshia Walters scored one point to round out the scoring.
Southern-Shreveport’s Triana Wilridge finished with a game-high 25 points, including five three-point baskets, in the win.
The Lady Bengals have Wednesday night off in the Conference’s five-team schedule before returning home next Saturday when they host Delgado Community College.
