Despite a slow start, the LSU Eunice women's basketball team came out of their holiday break with a win on Sunday night, grabbing a 77-55 victory over visiting Lincoln Land Community College.

The Lady Bengals (12-1) trailed most of the first half, not taking their first lead until the final three minutes of the first half. But they used a 12-2 run over the final five minutes of the period to take an eight-point lead into the break before coming out of the locker room with an 11-4 run in the first five minutes of the second stanza to grab control of the game.

"We were expecting them to come in and give us a tough game. We had freshmen the stepped up for us tonight…we had a big contribution from everyone tonight," Lady Bengal head coach Yolanda Moore said.

Overall, LSU Eunice shot 47 percent (28-of-59) from the floor, while they knocked down 55 percent (6-11) of their three-point attempts and collected free throws at a 76 percent (13-17) pace.

Freshman Ashlyn Wiemann accounted for all six Lady Bengal three-point baskets, finishing her night 6-for-9 from deep and collecting a game-high 20 points off the bench in the win. She added seven rebounds, a pair of assists and a steal to her final statline.

Sophomore Reagan Maricle notched 19 points of her own while passing out 11 assists and grabbing six steals and four rebounds. Fellow sophomore Brooke Richard finished with 18 points in her second start of the season, adding three rebounds, two assists and a steal.

Baylie Lee totaled eight points inside for the Lady Bengals while adding six rebounds, three assists, two blocks and a steal to fill her stats. Meghan Cross tallied six points, four rebounds, two steals, a block and an assist, while freshman Taylor Holzmeier totaled five points and seven rebounds.

McKayla Willie rounded out the LSU Eunice scoring with a single point from the free throw line while adding three assists.

Lincoln Land saw a trio of players finish in double-digits, with Jessica Armour leading the way with 11 points, as Breonna Lewis and Haley Lockhart each finished with 10 points in the loss.

"We don't expect them to come in and give us anything (tomorrow). We are familiar with what they are doing, and they know what we're doing, so we have to come in focused and prepaired tomorrow," Moore added.

The Lady Bengals and Lincoln Land Community College are back in action tomorrow afternoon in a 2 p.m. tipoff. Tomorrow's game can be seen on Bengal All-Access and heard over the airwaves on KVPI 1050 AM.
