Lady Bengals slide past visiting Lincoln Land Community College
A night after a back-and-forth contest, the LSU Eunice women's basketball team had no problem handling visiting Lincoln Land Community College, running away with a 78-49 victory on Monday afternoon.
The Lady Bengals (13-1) finished the afternoon shooting 51 percent (29-for-57) from the floor and 75 percent (18-24) from the free throw line, adding two three pointers (2-7, 29%).
"We were able to get good outputs from a lot of different players. It's always good when you have everyone contributing," head coach Yolanda Moore said.
The win improved the Lady Bengals to 6-0 this year in back-to-back game situations, a task they will face two more times in the coming weeks.
"Second games are always harder, because they know what you like to do and you don't know if you are still going to be on (from the night before)," sophomore Brooke Richard added.
Defensively, LSU Eunice made their presence felt, holding Lincoln Land (8-6) to seemingly one shot each possession, as the Lady Bengals finished with 29 rebounds on the defensive end of the floor, adding seven steals and six blocks.
LSU Eunice grabbed only nine offensive rebounds, but passed out 21 assists as a team in the win.
Richard led the charge with 22 points, including going 7-for-8 from the free throw stripe, while she added four rebounds, four assists and a pair of steals in the win.
Fellow sophomore Meghan Cross tallied 17 points of her own, all coming in the first half, as she grabbed eight defensive rebounds (10 total rebounds). Freshman Taylor Holzmeier notched 12 points (2 rebounds, 1 steal) of her own to round out the Lady Bengal double-digit scorers.
Sophomore Baylie Lee finished with a full statline, scoring eight points while swatting away five blocks and grabbing three rebounds, two assists and a steal.
Freshman Ashlyn Wiemann added seven points (3 rebounds, 2 assists), while fellow freshman Meghan Knight notched four points and two rebounds off the bench.
Kelsey Thibodeaux (1 rebound, 1 assist), Victoria Fontenot (1 rebound), Misha Mouton (2 steals, 1 rebound, 1 assist) and Reagan Maricle (5 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 block) all finished with two points to round out the LSU Eunice scoring.
Breonna Lewis (14 points) and Haley Lockhart (10 points) each tallied double-digit scoring totals for the second-straight game to lead Lincoln Land.
The Lady Bengals open the new year on January 4 and 5 when they welcome Fort Scott Community College to town. Tipoff for Saturday is scheduled for 6 p.m. and Sunday's game is a 2 p.m. start. Both games are available on Bengal All-Access.
