The LSU Eunice women’s basketball team did not score a basket from the field in the game’s final 10 minutes Wednesday night, falling 62-54 at Southern University-Shreveport in Miss-Lou Conference play.

The Lady Bengals (6-16 overall, 2-5 Miss-Lou Conference) took a six-point lead into the halftime break and led throughout the second half until the game’s final three minutes, as the teams traded baskets before the night’s final tied score came at the 1:28 mark.

From there, the Lady Bengals came up empty on their final possessions, allowing Southern-Shreveport (11-11, 3-5) to come from behind for the win.

“It’s very disappointing, we just didn’t execute. We folded down the stretch and didn’t run anything we were supposed to run,” head coach Michael Bari said.

“Our big kids showed up to play. Chesley played really well; Feleshia played really well. Our guards didn’t play that well, and it’s been that way all year – one facet goes well and the other doesn’t,” he added.

Overall, the Lady Bengals scored just five baskets in the second half, and finished the night shooting 30 percent (19-for-63) overall and only 18 percent from behind the three-point line (2-for-11).

Southern-Shreveport shot 36 percent (21-for-59) from the floor and 21 percent (5-for-24) from three-point range.

Chesley Dubroc led the Lady Bengals on both ends of the floor, finishing with a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Taylor Hurd was the only other LSU Eunice player in double figures, finishing with 10 points, adding five rebounds and five steals.

Meghan Cross and Feleshia Walters finished with identical stat lines of eight points and seven rebounds, while Lida Politopoulou scored seven points with six assists.

Brooke Richard and Jordan Sweatt each notched two points to round out the LSU Eunice scoring.

Southern-Shreveport finished with three players in double-digits, with Jazmine Ocanas finishing with 17 points and Tytionna Pratt and Triana Wilridge each notching 13 points.

The Lady Bengals have Saturday off in their Miss-Lou schedule before returning home on Wednesday when they host Delgado Community College at 6 p.m. inside the HPRE Center.
