The LSU Eunice softball team split a weekend of games in Dallas this past weekend, finishing 2-2 in the All-Season Tournament in their first road action of 2013.

The Lady Bengals picked up a pair of wins over Ranger College, but lost two games by identical scores to NJCAA Division I foe and 11th-ranked Butler Community College as well.

The weekend opened up with a 10-0 win over Ranger College, as freshman pitcher Julienne Brousard threw her first collegiate no-hitter, striking out 13 batters in the process.

Offensively, the Lady Bengals exploded for eight runs in the first inning before adding two more in the fourth for the final score.

Sophomore Kelsey Hollier finished 3-for-3 in the game, while Taylor Simon, Brooke Ort and Emily Nolan each went 2-for-3 with an RBI apiece in the win.

Saturday afternoon saw LSU Eunice jump ahead early against Butler before giving up the lead in the fifth  and falling 6-4 against the Division I opponent.

Brooklynn Clark led the Lady Bengals with two hits, including a homer in the sixth inning, while Simon also finished with two hits, a double and RBI triple.

LSU Eunice took the first lead in the top of the second, but Butler would take the lead in the fifth when they scored five runs in the inning.
Clark’s two–run homer and Simon’s RBI triple helped pull the Lady Bengals within a run at 5-4, but that would be as close as they would get.

Sunday morning, LSU Eunice jumped out to a 4-2 lead against Bulter before seeing their lead evaporate and lose by the same 6-4 score.

Hollier and Ort each finished 2-for-4 in the loss, while Broussard was saddled with her second-consecutive loss after allowing four earned runs on nine hits while striking out nine.

The Lady Bengals closed the tournament the way they opened it – with a win over Ranger College, this time by a 15-7 score after scoring nine runs in the opening three innings of the win.

Codi Covington finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and a pair of doubles, while Hollier finished 2-for-4 with four RBI, to lead LSU Eunice at the plate in the finale.

Simon went 2-for-4 with a walk and freshman Caitlyn Blanchard went 2-for-3 with a RBI and three runs scored.

The Lady Bengals got an RBI double by Hollier, RBI singles by Blanchard and Morgan Tauzin, and an RBI single by Ort during the second inning to help them jump out to the lead.

They added four additional runs in the fourth and a final two scores in the sixth for the final score.

Freshman Brooklyn Guillot grabbed the win for the Lady Bengals, allowing two runs over three innings while striking out four batters.

The Lady Bengals (6-2 overall) return home on Wednesday when they host Lamar State College in a doubleheader set for 1 p.m. first pitch.

Wednesday’s games can be seen on Bengal All-Access.
