The LSU Eunice baseball team continued its early season dominance on Saturday, beating St. Charles Community College 9-0 and 19-3 to sweep the three-game, two day series.

“Our guys showed up and they competed the whole day,” head coach Jeff Willis said.

“We haven’t played our best game yet, and that’s good. It’s a marathon throughout the season, a day-to-day process, and hopefully throughout the season we get better each time out,” he added.

In game one, the Bengals again jumped ahead early, posting four runs in the opening inning before adding single runs in the third and fourth, two runs in the fifth, and a final run in the seventh.

Stefan Trosclair, Buddy McCoy, Evan Powell, Garrett Deschamp and Casey Rodrigue each turned in two-hit performances for the Bengals.

Trosclair and Deschamp each drove home two RBI, while Powell, Rodrigue, Tyler Chapman and Kyle St. Pierre all drove in one RBI – with St. Pierre’s coming via his solo homer to left in the seventh.

Kirk Savoy got the starting nod for the Bengals, tossing three innings and allowing just two hits and one walk while striking out one.

Chad Reeves picked up the win after tossing four innings of relief, allowing only one hit and two walks while he struck out seven batters.

Game two saw much of the same recipe for the Bengals, as the offense scored three runs in the first before scoring four runs in the fourth, three in the fifth and nine runs in the sixth in the seven inning game.

Starter Zac Person earned his second win of the season after going five innings and allowing four hits and three runs while striking out four.

The bullpen trio of Trae Hester, Ben LeBlanc and Merrick Ardoin combined to allow just one hit and one walk over the final two innings.

Deschamp led the way with a 3-for-3 performance with four RBI, while Adam Angelle, Dalton DeLeon, Chapman and Rodrigue each notched two hits.

Derek Herrington (1-2) and Landon Thibodeaux (1-3) each finished with three RBI, while Chapman added two RBI and McCoy, St. Pierre, DeLeon, Keagan Kratzer and C.J. Womack had an RBI apiece.

The Bengals return next Friday for a three-game series against Murray State College. Friday night’s game is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m., with 1 p.m. starts on Friday and Saturday.

All three games of the series can be seen on Bengal All-Access and heard on KVPI 92.5 FM.
