Lady Bengals fall to visiting Baton Rouge in 2013 Play4Kay game
The LSU Eunice women’s basketball team ran into a poor shooting night on Saturday against Baton Rouge Community College, falling 62-47 in a defensive struggle during the Lady Bengals’ 2013 Play4Kay contest.
The Lady Bengals (6-15 overall, 2-4 Miss-Lou Conference) finished the night shooting 32 percent (15-for-47) from the floor, but were just 2-for-17 (12%) from behind the three-point line.
Baton Rouge (15-7, 5-1) finished the night shooting 44 percent (20-for-45), primarily from inside the paint area.
“Things were going well and then we got into a position where we stopped scoring, as usual. That let them get some confidence, let them get back in the game and then down the stretch we just didn’t stop them inside,” head coach Michael Bari said.
A back-and-forth first half saw the two teams trade the lead several times before the visitors took a one-point lead into the halftime break. In the second half, Baton Rouge slowly built its’ lead, with the margin remaining in the single digits until the final 3:30 of the game.
The Lady Bengals had three players in double-digits, with Chesley Dubroc leading the way with an 11-point effort. Lida Politopoulou and Meghan Cross each finished with 10 points, while Brooke Richard added eight points.
Kate Faulk and Taylor Hurd each tallied three points, and Jordan Sweatt and Feleshia Walters added one point each to round out the scoring.
Baton Rouge was led by Keisha Toston’s game-high 20 points, while they finished with two other double-digit scorers.
The Lady Bengals hit the road on Wednesday night, traveling to take on Southern-Shreveport.
