The LSU Eunice softball team picked up another doubleheader sweep on Saturday afternoon in Eunice, grabbing two wins over Muskegon Community College to improve to 20-2 on the 2013 season.

The pair of victories gives the Lady Bengals 15 straight wins and helps them improve to 14-0 on the season at home.

“It was a good day to play. It was a little windy but we kept the ball down and hit a lot of ground balls and line drives,” head coach Andy Lee said.

Codi Covington had a monster day at the plate, finishing with five hits and four RBI over the two games, including two doubles and home run.

Covington was one of three Lady Bengals to collect two hits in the opener, while Kelsey Hollier and Pam Wainwright also finished with a pair of hits. Hollier also notched two RBI.

Brooke Thomas, Brooke Clark and Emily Nolan each added a hit as well, as Clark and Taylor Simon each finished with an RBI.

Simon’s squeeze bunt brought home Thomas for the game’s first run before Covington scored the second Lady Bengal run on a Muskegon error later in the inning.

LSU Eunice added three runs in the second inning, first when Covington just missed a home run off the top of the wall down the left field line, instead picking up a two RBI stand up double. Clark would drive home Covington two batters later for the fifth run of the game.

Covington added to the lead with her solo home run in the fourth inning into the hard blowing wind before the Lady Bengals ended the game in the sixth on Hollier’s two-run double.

Julienne Broussard picked up the game one win, tossing five innings and allowing two hits and one walk while striking out six. Elizabeth Delafield pitched a perfect sixth inning for the Lady Bengals as well.

In the second game, the offense stayed hot, with Covington going 3-for-4 with two singles and a double, and Hollier and Simon both tallied two hits.

Clark, Nolan and Morgan Tauzin each collected one hit as well.

The scoring got started in the first inning when Covington singled before coming home on Simon’s RBI single three batters later.

The Lady Bengals added to the lead in the third inning with four consecutive two-out hits, with Clark collecting an RBI single and Nolan notching a two-run double.

The final run of the night came in the sixth inning when Covington hit a two-out double before scoring on Hollier’s RBI double.

Brooklyn Guillot earned the game two win after tossing six innings and allowing just two hits and no walks while striking out three batters before Delafield came on for another perfect final inning of work.

The Lady Bengals are back in action on Monday when they travel to Copiah-Lincoln Community College. The doubleheader is set to begin at 2 p.m. and can be seen on Bengal All-Access
