The LSU Eunice softball team secured their program record 21st win on Saturday night with a comeback win to push them to a 26-2 overall record and 4-0 after two days of competition at the Northwest Florida Tournament with a final pair of games coming on Saturday.

The Lady Bengals took Friday’s nightcap with three runs in the top of the seventh against tournament host Northwest Florida for a 5-2 comeback win for the record-breaking 21st straight victory.

The previous record of 20 consecutive wins was set during the Lady Bengals' Championship season in 2011.

In that seventh inning, Morgan Tauzin reached on a one-out single before Brooke Thomas followed with a single of her own to give LSU Eunice two runners on before Codi Covington connected on her two-run double to left field to give the visitors the late lead. Covington would score one batter later on Kelsey Hollier’s RBI single into right field to add a final insurance run.

The Lady Bengals opened the game’s scoring in the top of the second inning when Taylor Simon reached via an error before scoring on Ashley Subervielle’s RBI double into right field for the early lead, only to see Northwest Florida take the lead with two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning.

In the top of the sixth, LSU Eunice tied the game on Brooke Clark’s RBI double into right field that brought home Covington and set up the final inning and comeback win.

Thomas and Subervielle each finished with two hits, while Covington, Hollier, Tauzin, Clark, Emily Nolan and Pam Wainwright each finished with one hit.

Brooklyn Guillot picked up the win for the Lady Bengals, tossing seven innings and allowing two runs, three hits and four walks while striking out two.

Earlier in the day Friday, the Lady Bengals only collected two hits against Gulf Coast State College, but it was enough for a 3-0 victory behind the pitching performance of freshman Julienne Broussard.

Broussard finished with a complete game, allowing just two hits – one coming in the fourth inning and the other in the seventh – while striking out eight batters.

Covington and Hollier notched the only two hits of the game for the Lady Bengals, while Covington, Thomas, Simon and Clark each reached via walk.

LSU Eunice scored two runs in the first inning, when Covington and Hollier both reached with their singles before Covington scored on a fielder’s choice. Later in the inning, the Lady Bengals pulled off a double steal, with Simon scoring from third for the second run.

The only other run came in the fourth inning, when Clark led off with a walk before advancing around the bases and scoring on an error.

Thrusday morning the Lady Bengals had no trouble in either game, dropping Lansing Community College 12-3 and Wabash Valley College 11-1 in their first day of action.

Against Lansing, they scored in every inning except the second inning, while Thomas and Clark led the offense with two hits as seven other Lady Bengals added one hit each. Covington, Hollier and Subervielle each finished with two RBI, while Simon, Clark, Randi Vosburg and Chelsea Evans each had an RBI.

In their game against Wabash Valley, LSU Eunice exploded for 10 runs in the third inning, as Thomas, Hollier, Simon and Clark each collected two hits.

Nolan drove home three RBI in the win, while Simon added two RBI and Covington, Hollier and Subervielle each had one RBI.

The Lady Bengals wrap up their Florida trip with a pair of games on Saturday, facing Indian Hills Community College in the morning before finishing with Shelton State Community College tomorrow afternoon.
