Lady Bengals wrap up Florida tournament with 5-1 trip
A day after tying and then setting a new program record winning streak, the LSU Eunice softball team wrapped up its’ final day of tournament play in Florida with a win and a loss, finishing the six-game trip 5-1 and improving to 27-3 overall on the season.
The Lady Bengals extended their program-best winning streak with a win in their opening game against Indian Hills Community College with a 5-1 win and their 22nd consecutive game before falling 6-5 in their final game to Shelton State.
Against Indian Hills, the two teams combined for 12 runs in the fourth inning, as the Lady Bengals scored seven runs in the inning, along with two runs in the second and a final run in the sixth, while Indian Hills scored all five of their runs in the fourth inning.
Emily Nolan led the way for the Lady Bengals with three hits, two of them doubles, while Taylor Simon, Brooke Clark and Randi Vosburg each finished with two hits.
Pam Wainwright and Chelsea Evans each drove home two RBI, while Clark, Nolan, Vosburg and Kelsey Hollier each added one RBI.
Indian Hills had no answer for Julienne Broussard, as she held Indian Hills hitless over three innings, allowing no runs, walked none and striking out five batters.
Even though Elizabeth Delafield allowed the five runs in the fourth inning, she earned the victory after tossing four innings while striking out one batter, walking one and surrendering six hits.
In their final game against Shelton State, the Lady Bengals saw themselves down 4-0 before taking the lead with five runs over the final four innings only to see Shelton State score two runs in the bottom of the seventh for the win.
Ashley Subervielle, Hollier, Nolan and Wainwright each finished with two hits to lead the LSU Eunice offense, with both of Wainwright’s hits going for doubles. Codi Covington, Morgan Tauzin, Simon and Subervielle each added a double as well.
Nolan drove home two RBIs in the loss, while Clark, Subervielle and Tauzin each had one RBI.
Brooklyn Gulliot took the loss in relief for the Lady Bengals after tossing the final 4 1/3 innings and allowing eight hits and three runs while walking two batters and striking out four.
Broussard started the game and went the first two innings, allowing three hits and three runs with no walks and no strikeouts.
The Lady Bengals are no off until Friday, when they welcome Temple Community College to town for a doubleheader beginning with a 1 p.m. first pitch.
