Box Score

The LSU Eunice baseball team used a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the ninth inning to cap a 7-6 comeback win on Sunday afternoon over visiting Delgado Community College in the third game of their three game set.

Casey Rodrigue opened the ninth inning with a leadoff single for the Bengals (33-5) before Delgado (32-7) hit the next batter and intentionally walked the next to load the bases and set up a force play.

After a strikeout and a pitching change, Buddy McCoy drew a full count walk to allow Rodrigue to trot home with the game winning run.

Rodrigue was the only Bengal to finish with multiple hits, going 2-3 with two RBIs and a stolen base, while Stefan Trosclair (BB), Landon Thibodeaux (2 BB) and Ray Veit each notched a hit and RBI apiece.

Adam Angelle (2 BB, stolen base), Evan Powell and Tyler Chapman each singled as well.

McCoy finished 0-3 with two walks and two RBIs.

Thibodeaux’s leadoff home run down the left field line tied the game in the second inning before the visitors added two more runs in the third inning.

Veit’s RBI single cut into the deficit in the fourth inning, but the Bengals left the bases loaded to end the fourth and fifth innings before Delgado extended its’ lead to four with three runs in the top of the sixth inning before the Bengals responded with four runs in the bottom of the frame.

Rodrigue’s two-run double brought LSU Eunice within one in the sixth before Trosclair’s squeeze bunt tied the game up to set up the ninth inning winner.

Ryan Domangue, the fourth and final pitcher of the game for the Bengals, was credited with his second win of the season after coming on in the ninth inning and stranding two Delgado baserunners.

Bengal starter Zac Person did not factor into the decision after tossing 5 1/3 innings and allowing four hits, four walks and all six Delgado runs along with six strikeouts.

LSU Eunice now readies for a mid-week road contest at Centenary College on Tuesday night before traveling for a three-game series against Delgado in New Orleans next weekend.

Tuesday’s contest, as well as next weekend’s series, is available on Bengal All-Access.
