The LSU Eunice women's basketball team wrapped up its 2014-2015 season-opening weekend on Saturday afternoon in Houston, falling 133-74 to tournament host San Jacinto College.
The Lady Bengals (0-2) finished the night shooting 24-for-61 from the floor (39 percent) while hitting just 33 percent of their three-point attempts overall (3-for-9). "We had a very weak first half and never really recovered. In the second half, we came out and played a better but we had already dug ourselves into a deep hole. There were some positives in this weekend's games, but we have a long way to go to get better as the season moves on," head coach Amanda Clemons said.
Freshman Katie Lemieux tallied a double-double in her second collegiate game, finishing with 22 points and 11 rebounds, and adding six steals and three assists.
Sophomore Taylor Holzmeier notched 24 points of her own, grabbing five rebounds and a steal as well. Freshman Amber Richard rounded out the trio of double-digit scorers, finishing with 13 points and adding four rebounds, a steal and an assist.
Freshmen Maggie Miller (5 points, 2 rebounds, 2 steals), Shandreka Roberson (4 points), Brianna Ramirez (3 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists) and India Marbs (3 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist) all filled the score sheet as well.
